At the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, students experience expert education. UAFS specializes in equipping its graduates with the skills and hands-on education necessary for them to succeed immediately upon entering the work force.

UAFS provides students with a wealth of opportunities for academic, cultural and social activities in an atmosphere that focuses on real-life preparation. More than 50 student organizations, including Greek life, intramural sports and various interest groups, offer an opportunity for everyone to be involved on campus.

Each year, the Season of Entertainment brings to campus national tours of hit Broadway musicals, as well as world-renowned performance groups and student productions.

The UAFS Lions compete in NCAA Division II baseball, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball, tennis, cross country and golf.

A new student housing complex, including 446 beds and a full-service dining facility, opened in the fall 2010 semester. This complex is designed for freshmen only, to help ease their transition into college life. Housing for upperclassmen is adjacent to the campus at Sebastian Commons, which offers fully furnished apartments complete with Internet access, full kitchens and a limited-access gate.

Students at UAFS find a variety of educational opportunities, including more than 60 bachelor’s and associate degrees, 15 technical certificates and 17 certificates of proficiency, each offering hands-on, applied learning through innovative programs. The university’s degree programs feature actual work experiences in the field with a strong connection to the community.

A selection of alternate delivery methods, including online courses, evening and weekend classes and distance-education options, is offered to meet the growing needs of a diverse student population.

UAFS’s award-winning campus features more than 20 major buildings, plus the Donald W. Reynolds Plaza, Tower and Campus Green. The university’s campus is among the best maintained in the nation, as evidenced by its superior rating on the Facility Condition Index. The Stubblefield Center offers a premier 3,100-seat venue for concerts, athletics and feature events. The Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center houses all student-service offices, a campus store, a food court and lounge areas.

Construction began this April on the 40,000-square-foot addition to the Boreham Library. This planned expansion will dramatically increase the services and technology available to the students and faculty. It also includes several areas designed to provide research support for economic development and entrepreneurial needs of the Fort Smith area as part of a $2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Through internships and other hands-on programs, students gain familiarity with area businesses, accumulating on-the-job knowledge and making contacts that serve them throughout their careers.

When students choose UAFS, they choose their future.
