Weatherization Installer

The job of a Weatherization Installer is to help people save money. By making adjustments to the buildings people use every day, Weatherization Installers make those buildings more efficient, thus lowering the amount of energy required to keep them running.

If you’re a Weatherization Installer, you start the process by traveling to the building and conducting a thorough review. You look for problems such as leaking windows and doors, insufficient insulation in the attic, leaking ductwork, and inefficient radiators. You then talk to the building’s owners about what you’ve found, and write up an estimate for the cost of repairs.

If those costs are approved, you make the changes you’ve recommended. You order materials, and inspect them when they’re delivered. Some projects will be quite small, requiring you to replace a few windows and seal a few ducts. Others will be large, and take you weeks to complete.

Some projects will be located in your neighborhood, allowing you to head home to your comfortable recliner at night. Others will be located far away, and you may be required to spend weeks away from that comfy chair. When the project is complete, you perform quality checks to make sure the new equipment is working.

While you’re expected to perform most of the repairs yourself, there may be times that you’ll need to bring in a subcontractor to tackle more difficult installations. If this happens, you write up purchase orders for that work, and make sure the subcontractors complete the project within budget.
