Operates machines to coat paper or cardboard container blanks with wax or paraffin: Mounts paper roll on machine feedrack by hand or using chain hoist, or loads blanks on stacking mechanism. Fills tank with wax chunks or paraffin blocks, and turns valves to regulate temperature and melt material. Starts machine and adjusts controls to regulate machine feed, temperature of wax, paraffin, cooling rolls, or cold water bath, and tension of paper feed or stacking mechanism. Weighs standard-size paper sheets before and after coating and calculates weight of wax, or measures thickness of coated blanks with automatic micrometer, to verify that coating meets specifications. Examines blanks for uneven paraffin distribution, bubbles, spots, or other imperfections. May be designated according to type of product coated as Carton-Waxing-Machine Operator.
