Usability Analysts work in the field of website design, but specialize in the very important subcategory of usability. Usability refers to a program’s or a website’s ease of use. This is incredibly important not only for the consumer, but also for the company they work for. The easier a Usability Analyst can make a complex program work, the more likely it is going to sell or be used.

As a Usability Analyst, you spend most of your time evaluating interfaces already on the market: what makes them work, where they fall short. You also analyze results from studies and private testing done with your own company’s software. Then it’s up to you to figure out where an interface can improve, and what needs to be done to ensure that that happens.

Your main goal is to find ways to improve the user’s experience. You ensure that the interface is easily and quickly learned, used, and remembered. It should also be fun, and allow for creativity, regardless of the program. So as a Usability Analyst, you’re also a Designer by default. Then when you’ve gathered your findings, you present them, as well as your suggestions for improvements, to your company’s higher-ups.
