Tortue

Cancer is everywhere now, not just in our hospitals, but also in our media, our neighborhoods, and even our own homes. The easiest way we can eliminate disease is by learning as much as we can about what we’re fighting. A Tumor Registrar gathers data on cases of cancer, and records it in a database to spread information to Doctors and patients alike.

Reviewing hospital records and inputting them into a computer system may seem like a mindless administrative task, but that’s just the very tip of the iceberg. Everything that a Tumor Registrar does is about collecting information for the greater good; checkups even allow them to make sure all regulations are being complied with. If you’re a Tumor Registrar, you build relationships with certain hospitals, get to know Doctors and Nurses, and try to add a personal touch to surveys that may be tough for those who’ve lost patients.

One of the most emotionally charged responsibilities you’re tasked with is following up on tumor survivors. The call is meant to serve two purposes: to learn if they’re still cancer-free and, if so, how long they’ve been that way, and also to remind them to see their Doctors regularly for checkups.

The statistics that you generate in your office help Doctors notice correlations of success for certain treatments. You could be the first to discover that one method works better than another. You analyze the data, give presentations, and send off reports on the information you’ve collected. Knowledge is power, and being the organized force behind gathering that knowledge lets you use your nine-to-five to help stamp out a terrible disease.
