Technician

A Technician is someone who installs, monitors, repairs, adjusts, and replaces things. “Things” in this sense is a general term because the title Technician is as broad as the Nile is long.

Pick your industry and there’s probably a job in it as a Technician. You could repair small appliances, large appliances, or specific products, such as televisions. If your interests lie in electronics, you could work with Engineers to produce circuit boards, relay systems, industrial equipment, power tools, elevators, or the components on an airplane’s dashboard.

If you’re more interested in the process of how things work, you could become a Process Development Technician, analyzing ways to mass-produce a particular product. Whatever your interest, you can contribute to the field by providing passion and knowledge.

You could help build and redesign car engines, maintain irrigation systems for commercial farms, or trim, fertilize, and plant public or private gardens and other landscaped areas. Maybe you’re looking for a job in a “green” industry. If so, you could become a Wind Technician, helping to design and install wind turbines, or work with fuel cells with the goal of moving away from fossil fuels.

You could work in forestry, radiology, forensics, computers, chemicals, guns, buildings, traffic signals, solar panels, or an endless number of other industries. If you have an intrinsic passion for fixing things, an eye for detail, and a desire to improve a system or product, check your local schools for Technician programs.
