Faster than a speeding bullet? More powerful than a locomotive? Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? You’re not a bird. You’re not a plane. And no, you’re not Superman, either. As it turns out, you’re a Stuntman, or Stunt Double.

Part Athlete, part Actor, a Stuntman is paid to perform dangerous stunts on film as stand-ins for leading men and women. Whether it’s for film or television, studios entrust Producers with keeping their stars safe and sound. For that reason, you’re hired as a Stuntman to be a pinch-hitting Performer. When filming progresses from story to stunt, you step in to do the dirty work.

What the dirty work is — and just how dirty — depends. Every day is different. For instance, you might have to jump off a bridge or fall off a building. You might have to climb a mountain or scale a skyscraper.

You might have to light yourself on fire, or feign drowning out at sea. Perhaps you’ll be asked to get in a fistfight — and lose. Maybe you’ll have to crash and burn a motorcycle, or get dragged by a horse. You may have to crash a car, or survive an explosion.

You might even have to go head to head with a pack of rabid dogs. Never has the phrase “expect the unexpected” been more appropriate.

Whatever the stunt, you’re risky but never reckless, as you’re equipped with as much safety training as you are with adrenaline. Of course, the Actor still gets all the glory; you, however, definitely get to claim all the guts!
