Solar photovoltaic systems are those fancy solar panels mounted to the roofs and sides of buildings, and strategically placed on other parts of the property where they can soak up the sun’s rays and convert them into electricity. Solar Photovoltaic Installers are the workers who harness up, scale the building, and put the solar system in place.

As a Solar Photovoltaic Installer, you need to get over any fear of heights. Because roofs receive the most direct exposure to the sun, most of your workday is spent climbing up and down those shingled peaks. Of course, you take all the safety precautions, not only because you don’t want to get hurt, but also because the Solar Energy Installation Manager is watching out to make sure you follow federal, state, local, and company protocol.

Working as a Solar Photovoltaic Installer means translating Engineers ’ schematics, blueprints, and other sketches into a real, live, functioning system. You start by gathering supplies and verifying deliveries to the job site. That might mean loading and unloading panels and other components.

Then you follow the diagram piece by piece until the entire system is installed. Along the way, you sometimes use your own engineering skills to MacGyver different mounting brackets or layouts as complications arise.

Once the system is complete, you verify that it’s working properly, complete paperwork, and answer any questions the customer may have. At other job sites, you may perform inspections to previously installed systems, or run tests to identify problems and measure efficiency.
