Park Ranger
Patrol parks to help visitors and natural resources stay safe.
A Ski Patroller is professionally trained in medical emergency procedures. Ski Patrollers work on mountain slopes, patrolling trails and delivering aid where needed. As a Ski Patroller, you’re most likely employed by a ski resort or something similar, and you spend a large part of your day skiing or riding a snowmobile, traveling on and off trails, making sure that skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers are safe.
It’s during unforeseen emergencies such as avalanches or earthquakes that your help is most needed. Part of your job is to track emergency signals, find fallen skiers, extricate them from sticky situations, and transport them back down to the base.
But your help can be used anytime someone is hurt on the slopes and needs immediate attention. You’re the one who helps them before they can make it to a Doctor. You employ first aid practices and emergency services as needed.
Generally, you work as part of a ski patrol team, covering certain areas of the mountain in groups, and watching for anyone who may need help. You may also be asked to write some reports and do some charting on the injured people you help.
Another part of your job revolves around educating the people who visit the mountain. You may be asked to lead classes on safety and responsibility on the slopes. And you’re also partly responsible for maintaining signs on trails, and helping to prevent avalanches.
