Agronomists specialize in understanding different types of plants and their interaction with the soil and climate. As a Sales Agronomist, you focus that knowledge on the sale of products such as fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and seeds.

That sales process requires many steps, beginning with an understanding of the chemical makeup of soil, the effect of different weather conditions, and the goals of the grower. In order to get a clear understanding of that information, Sales Agronomists travel to the Farmer ’s field, ask questions, take soil samples, and give recommendations about what products will prevent disease or eliminate bug problems.

When you’re not in the field, you’re in your office, which might be a spare room in your house. Or you might offer your skills at a lawn supply store, nursery, or seed company. To increase product sales, the Sales Agronomist acts as Teacher and mentor to the staff, informing them about each product’s value. You help them identify the customer’s needs, and match those to the most suitable fertilizer or tomato strain.

Because you’re a master Gardener, you provide the knowledge and tools that growers need. You help them understand the most effective ways to lay out crop rows and identify which crops grow well next to each other. When you build this trust with your customers, they come to rely on you when it comes to techniques and products. In the end, sharing that knowledge results in the product sales that help your company reach its sales goals.
