Ropes courses serve a variety of purposes. They’re a great way to implement team building within a corporate atmosphere. They’re also physically demanding enough to be used for military training or other forms of fitness skill building. And of course, they’re also a fantastic weekend activity for any family!

That’s why as a Ropes Course Designer, you take many factors into consideration — foremost of which is the purpose of the course — when creating your designs.

The first step for the Ropes Course Designer is to analyze the space where the course will be built. It might be in the rainforests of South America or the parking lot of a major corporation.

Safety is also a major concern for the Ropes Course Designer. That means you think about how high the platforms will be, what types of mounts you’ll use, and which ropes are right for the job. To make sure everything is safe and functional, you rely on Engineer -proven principles. You also use computer software (CAD) to help with the details.

You’re a Designer as well as an Artist. Depending on what the customer wants, you might include bridges, ziplines, and platforms in your design. You also incorporate catwalks and nets to climb.

Variety adds to the intensity of the experience, so you consider ways to work the upper body as well as the lower body. You offer a bit of a thrill with freefalls, and more technical challenges with log rolls and swinging beams.

In addition to your design work, you might take part in the installation and training for the course.
