Hotel Manager
Keep workers on task and guests satisfied at a hotel.
If you love food and people, then the job of a Restaurant General Manager might be for you. Found in restaurants of all kinds, from fastfood to fine dining, Restaurant General Managers oversee the staff and budget of dining establishments, and find ways to make a customer’s eating experience the best possible.
In this job as a Restaurant General Manager, you do a little bit of everything. You hire staff, oversee other Managers, place orders for new kitchen equipment, create marketing plans, and order supplies. Restaurant General Managers also create budgets, pay bills, or develop new menus. During especially busy times, you might even take orders or serve customers.
You work with the Restaurant Owners or higher-ups in the corporation to create sales goals and incentive programs for the staff. And then you work to keep your staff well trained and motivated. You also encourage other Managers to grow their skills, and teach them different ways to get the job done well.
It’s important to keep in mind that this is a customer service job. Sometimes, people are awesome and other times…well not so much. You should enjoy working with people from all backgrounds, and have the ability to stay calm in tense situations. You also need to be able to communicate well, and to nicely, but firmly, get your point across.
Keep in mind that you might occasionally have to deal with angry or even drunk customers. When problems arise, you walk the fine line between keeping your customers happy and not upsetting your staff.
