Restaurant Designer

A Restaurant Designer is charged with creating the ambience of a restaurant, which makes you reasonable for the décor and other design elements. Essentially you are a restaurant specific Interior Designer. But unlike decorating a home, the Restaurant Designer must create an area that will attract customers and accommodate the flow of a restaurant.

This is a great area; American’s palates are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and their interest in fine dining is expanding. But they’re not just looking for great food; they’re looking for great dining. For this, the way a restaurant looks, feels, and presents itself matters, from the architecture of the ceiling, to the layout of the dining room floor, to the type of lighting used. The design expertise of the Restaurant Designer grabs that ambiance planning by the nose, and transforms eating at a restaurant from a meal into an experience.

As a Restaurant Designer, you may work independently or as part of a restaurant design firm. At the beginning of any project you meet with the Restaurant Owners who have hired you or your team. Together you collaborate on the design, be it determining a theme or recommending window treatments. Once your plan is approved you choose and purchase design elements, such as paint, furnishings, lighting fixtures, and so on.

In this process you must always keep in mind the kind of clientele the restaurant is trying to attract. For instance, in a high-end establishment comfortable chairs are very important, while in a coffee shop or diner seating capacity is the priority.
