Resident Care Coordinator

To know what a Resident Care Coordinator is, you should first learn what a resident care facility is. This is a place where people with serious disabilities, patients recovering from major illnesses or injuries, or the elderly live. Basically, if someone needs round-the-clock nursing for an extended period of time, they come to live here.

If you’re a Resident Care Coordinator, you have two major groups that you work with: patients and workers. With regard to patients, your responsibility as a Resident Care Coordinator is to keep an eye on their progress and health. For example, you monitor the type and amount of medicines they’re prescribed to make sure they don’t suffer from adverse side effects, or take something that isn’t actually helping them. Also, a Resident Care Coordinator oversees medication handouts and general care to ensure that patient treatment is of the best quality.

If you work with the elderly or disabled, you keep an eye on their general health, and watch for signs of illnesses that commonly develop in these groups. You keep detailed progress reports, and communicate regularly with your patient’s Doctors to ensure they stay aware of any problems that arise.

With regard to the workers at your facility, you serve as a cross between a Coach and a Manager. You keep an eye on performance, give reviews, and set up trainings to keep your staff educated. You can help with the hiring or firing of employees, and handle any issues that might arise between staff and management.
