Reptiles—people either love them or hate them. If you have respect for and are curious about snakes, crocodiles, turtles, and other reptiles, you can combine that interest with a paycheck by becoming a Reptile Farmer. Reptile Farmers are basically Ranch Managers who raise reptiles.

As a Reptile Farmer, you might specialize in one type of animal. For example, you might raise rattlesnakes so you can harvest their venom. Or perhaps you dabble in a variety of snakes, each with its own dominant characteristics. Anaconda? Boa constrictor?

While snakes can be kept in small cages and require relatively little space, Reptile Farmers might also raise larger creatures that require more acreage. Crocodiles, alligators, and caimans are a few examples. Of course, perhaps you’d rather breed tortoises or turtles, or even specialize in a unique species of lizard.

Regardless of the animals you choose, you must first buy or capture them to start your farm. You also need to decide on your reason for raising them. Do you want to work with Teachers to educate children about the different types of turtles? Are you looking to make a profit out of snakeskin? Perhaps you’d like to breed an endangered species.

Whether you’re farming them for their meat or simply to perform in the circus, the animals require your care. So, you make sure they have food and water, an appropriate pen or cage, and the proper medical care. In addition, you keep careful records, watch the budget, and handle deliveries.
