Radio Frequency Identification Device Technician
Install tracking or alarm systems for businesses or homeowners. Also known as RFID Technician
As a Radio Frequency Identification Device Technician, you’re the worker who puts lofty ideas into practice. While RFID Systems Architects and RFID Strategists wax poetic about how these small tracking devices can be used to monitor people, animals, and products, Radio Frequency Identification Device Technicians are busily installing the devices and making sure they work properly.
Most Radio Frequency Identification Device Technicians work in the retail sector, installing systems to help companies monitor products as they move from the warehouse into the consumer’s waiting arms. In your work, you attach small chips to products and test those chips with the receptors the company has purchased. You tweak the receptors as needed to make sure they can pick up the signals from the tiny chips. If your company wraps products in foil or plastic, this tweaking may be particularly important.
At the checkout, the monitors can become confused if multiple chips give readings at the same time. The receptors can be adjusted to make sure they aren’t overwhelmed and likely to shut down, but you also train retail staff to use the chips and monitors properly.
Sometimes, the systems fail and you’re called to provide emergency care to bring them online once more. This might involve looking through the coding that runs the system, but it’s not uncommon for you to replace certain receptors that have fizzled. At the end of your repairs, you test the system to make sure everything is working properly once more.
