The opinion of clients and customers can make or break a company. Too many bad reviews and stockholders start to jump ship, profits plummet, and employees start looking for new jobs. As a Public Relations Manager, you do all you can to stop that from happening. The Public Relations Manager achieves this by presenting your company and its products in the best possible light.

In many ways, this job is similar to a public affairs position. The big difference is who you work for. Public Affairs Officers generally work for government organizations, while Public Relations Managers work for private companies and industries.

Often, however, these titles get used interchangeably. A big reason for this is how much the two look alike in their day-to-day responsibilities. Both positions are in charge of working with the public and the media to get out positive information about their organizations.

You can do this by updating your company’s website, writing a press release about a new product, holding a press conference to announce a new hire, or writing an article for a local paper. You also set up interviews and form positive relationships with the media, making sure they always show your company in the best light.

Aside from your image management duties, you have other responsibilities that resemble those of any Manager. You hire and train new employees, set work goals, create budgets, oversee and critique work, and, in general, handle any issues that might come up.
