Carrying natural gas from one location to another is the main goal of a Pipeline Engineer. Pipeline Engineers are employed by natural resource companies (like natural gas suppliers) to oversee transport operations. From the early planning stages to the project’s completion, safety is their steadfast concern.

If you’re a Pipeline Engineer, the planning of the project’s construction starts with you. Your coworkers look to you for accurate calculations for materials (both quantity and expense). Also, you provide detailed reports outlining expectations for mitigating circumstances, projected trouble areas, and solutions when possible. For example, if you discover that the area planned for the pipeline is the habitat of an endangered species, you’re expected to come up with a solution.

As a Pipeline Engineer, you’re also responsible for the safety of the work crew and property owners. As each section of the pipeline project is completed, you inspect it for damage that may compromise the safety of everyone concerned.

Understanding and implementing safety guidelines for all aspects of the project falls to you. For example, when you see that Bobby has carelessly left tools lying around the jobsite, you step in to pick the tools up and have a discussion with Bobby about safety. As the licensed Engineer on the project, you must enjoy responsibility and pressure in the workplace to enjoy this job.
