Pilates Instructor

Pilates is an exercise regimen that involves a series of slow, flowing movements designed to work every part of the body. A Pilates Instructor leads classes that help participants gain more mobility, flexibility, and strength.

As a Pilates Instructor, you can work for a studio, in which case you typically teach the number of classes required by the studio. Or, you can go freelance and set your own hours — working either part-time or full-time, and renting a space for your classes. Once you’ve learned the skills, you can teach at gyms, resorts, rehabilitation centers, or even cruise ships. You can also undergo training to instruct similar classes as a Yoga Instructor or Kickboxing Teacher.

So, what are classes like? That depends on you! Because you know more than 500 Pilates moves, you get to piece them together into a routine for your students.

And because your students are the reason you’re in business, you always consider their needs. Do you have pregnant women in the class? How about someone who’s had a hip replacement or recent surgery? It’s your job as a Pilates Instructor to vary movements to make the exercises comfortable for all body types and fitness levels.

In addition to your time leading class on a mat, you might also train on specialized Pilates equipment. The goal of Pilates is to create a lean, fit body without adding bulk, and you know how to work the body on the equipment to achieve this goal. So what are you waiting for? Get moving!
