Patient Advocate
Work with patients to get them the best care at the lowest cost. Also known as Marketing Associate, Patient Ombudsperson See More
Organizations exist for saving the planet, protecting animals, and helping the less fortunate. Now, with the role of the Patient Advocate, there’s also someone to reach out and help those who are struggling to find adequate health care or pay their medical bills. A Patient Advocate works one-on-one with patients to schedule appointments, choose adequate treatment plans, and provide emotional support.
Your job as a Patient Advocate is not about defying Doctor’s orders or exposing corrupt insurance companies. Doctors and health care organizations want to help their patients. But with the vast number of people they treat, they simply can’t spend as much time as they’d like offering support to a patient during a rough illness.
You ensure that patients receive the best possible care at the lowest possible cost. Each day, you visit patients, take them to their appointments, and discuss treatment options. You are the link between patients and Doctors, helping patients communicate clearly with their health care providers. An elderly patient, for example, might forget to mention a medicine she’s taking, so you tell the Doctor about it to ensure new medications will not interact with the old one.
Financial aspects of health care also fall under your umbrella. If a family loses its insurance plan or can’t keep up with mounting bills, you find ways to deal with the situation. You are the guiding light that helps patients through their illnesses to reach better days.
