In the search for the next source of energy, wind turbines are being touted by a number of companies as the wave of the future. As a Wind Turbine Technician, you play a major role in the process. You take part in the operations and maintenance of wind turbines — those large structures with turning arms that create energy with each go-around.

But wait, where does the offshore part of this job Offshore Wind Turbine Technician come in? For the most part, jobs in the US tend to be onshore, which means the wind turbines being created here are on ground. However, in Europe, and especially in the United Kingdom, wind farms are being built offshore to create energy and power for the countries near them. That being said, there’s a wind farm off the coast of Cape Cod, and others are in the planning process and may possibly be built soon.

If you hope to work as an Offshore Wind Turbine Technician, you might face some issues unless you’re an EU citizen or qualified to work abroad. However, the good news is Wind Turbine Technicians (both onshore and offshore) are in great demand right now and have excellent chances of being hired.

Whether above ground or water, expect to spend your days high up in the air. The purpose of this position is to fix broken parts, get stalled turbines moving again, and, in general, make sure everything is working as it should. You can start your job as an Offshore Wind Turbine Technician on the ground, welding together the different parts and ensuring that everything is in good working order before the entire structure gets installed. Once it’s installed, you do periodic checkups to keep things turning as they should.
