OB/GYN

The female reproductive system is amazing! And no one knows it better than an OB/GYN. That’s because they spend their days (and often nights and weekends, too) working to improve and maintain women’s health.

OB/GYNs are Doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases of the organs within the reproductive system. They also attend to patients before, during, and after a pregnancy.

That’s a lot of responsibility. But, being an OB/GYN is also one of the most rewarding career choices you can make. Helping women successfully conceive and deliver children is stressful, can be heartbreaking, and is nothing less than utterly amazing!

Your daily calendar is filled with patients who need annual exams. This helps you identify diseases such as uterine or ovarian cancer. You also hunt down sexually transmitted diseases that may interfere with a successful pregnancy. You take notes, recommend medications, offer advice, and provide references as needed.

In addition to annual exams, you help patients who are having severe cramping, bleeding, or other uncomfortable symptoms. Your pregnant patients rely on you to monitor their pregnancy and identify any problems or concerns.

Of course, your regularly scheduled day could go awry at any moment if one of your patients goes into labor. When that happens, you leave your post (whether it be a private practice or the upper level at the hospital) and rush to the delivery room, where you help the mother bring the infant into the world. Lucky baby, the first face he or she sees will be yours!
