Health Services Manager

As a Nurse Manager, you hold a lot of cards in the deck of responsibilities. You’re the Ace of Management, the King of Nursing, and the Queen of Hospital Policies. Without you, the nursing staff would become disorganized and unmonitored. Thankfully, as the Nursing Manager, you’re there to make sure the patients receive quality care, the Nurses do their jobs well, and things run smoothly.
In short, when you’re the Nursing Manager, you’re the Supervisor of the floor. You hire, train, evaluate, monitor, and (if necessary) fire the Nurses under your command. You also issue promotions, put your stamp of approval on vacation requests, and step in to settle disputes. Additionally, you make up the schedule and help find substitutes when someone calls in sick.
Organization is your best friend in this position. In addition to maintaining employee files, you also ensure that the staff follows policies and regulations. If there is an incident with a patient or a hazardous spill, you make sure protocol is followed and the proper paperwork is completed. You also organize and lead staff meetings in order to relay procedural changes or training.
Of course, along the way, you perform your most important duty, which is to ensure that the patients receive the very best possible treatment. This means you observe the Nurses while they work, ensure all safety practices are implemented, and evaluate bedside manner. And on top of all of this, you might also maintain the budget, order supplies, and provide information to the public.
