Nanny

A Nanny is a cross between a Daycare Manager and a mom. Like a Daycare Teacher, you work with kids that aren’t your own. And like a mom, you take care of kids from only one family, letting you form bonds that are so close, it’s like you’re actually raising them. Parents tend to choose a Nanny over preschool because the attention their child gets from a Nanny is more focused and personalized.

As a Nanny, you have different options for work environments. You can be a live-in Nanny, where you live with the family and organize your workweek into a combination of day shifts and night shifts. Or you can be a day Nanny. This is when you live elsewhere and come, usually Mondays through Fridays, to a family’s house to watch the kids while the parents work. Another option is to be part of a Nanny share. This is when several parents, usually friends or family, decide to have only one Nanny. So you watch more kids, but they tend to be related or close friends with one another.

Your job is to keep the kids entertained and safe. You take them to the park or on play dates, read to them, or do any number of games and art activities. You might also be in charge of teaching them developmental skills like writing, counting, or potty training. Your responsibilities can vary according to your ward’s age and what the parents would like them to learn.
