A Museum Guide, sometimes known as a Museum Docent, provides cultural or historical information about a museum’s collection to visitors via organized walk-throughs of the location. As a Museum Guide you may be walking groups or individuals through the permanent collection of a museum or a special exhibition.
Your day-to-day duties are fairly consistent as a Museum Guide. Most Guides give several tours a day, each generally lasting for no more than a few hours. You tailor these tours based on your audience, be they a class of second graders or a group of senior citizens. So that you can give quality tours, you must stay current on the museum’s exhibits and policies by attending training courses and lectures.
If you are enthusiastic about teaching others, becoming a Tour Guide may be right for you. You will have the opportunity to interact with a wide-range of individuals from locals to world-travelers and be able to teach them about something in which you have a great deal of knowledge and interest.
