Literacy Education Professor
Teach university students about literacy education. Also known as Adjunct Faculty, Associate Professor of Literacy
Literacy is the ability to read and write, and it’s pretty important as far as setting a person up for future success. As a Literacy Education Professor, you teach undergrad- and graduate-level students who want to teach literacy to people. The students you work with can continue on to become Reading Teachers, Literacy Specialists, or Literacy Coaches.
The role of a Literacy Education Professor has all the basic components of any Professor role. You lecture students, give grades, provide guidance on complex theories, and get your summers off. While you teach, you’re required to continue your own education. To do this, you carry out independent research, write papers, and present new information at conferences as a Literacy Education Professor.
Literacy is a pretty broad subject that covers both the abilities to read and write. Your students might be the future Teachers of young kids or older adults. They could work with people with developmental disabilities, or those who speak English as a second language.
As you can imagine, each of these groups has its own specific ways of learning as well as its own issues. You give your students a firm basis in literacy education so they can work with any student who crosses their path.
The classes you hold can cover anything from the basics to more complex, PhD-level work. You handle topics like how to teach study skills, how writing and reading can be taught together, and how to use different assessments to tell if a person is illiterate.
