To most people, java is something you drink first thing in the morning to help you wake up. To the information technology industry, however, it’s a lot more than a hot caffeinated beverage. It’s a language — and a Java Developer makes his or her living speaking it.
When you’re a Java Developer, it’s your job to help test and create interactive websites using a special computer programming language known as JavaScript, or “Java.” Originally developed by Netscape Communications under the name “Mocha,” Java allows website users to dynamically experience moving images, animation, and sound on what would otherwise be boring, static web pages. Used frequently on e-commerce websites, it also allows them to securely confirm their identities and make online transactions.
As cool as Java is, however, it wouldn’t be possible without you, the Java Developer. A specialized type of Computer Programmer, you collaborate with Web Designers, Web Developers, and Software Engineers to integrate Java into your company’s or client’s websites and applications. Typically, that requires communicating with Managers to determine a website’s business goals and objectives, gathering and documenting end-user requirements, and then writing Java-based source code — computer programming text — that gives a website the desired functionality based on both Managers’ and users’ demands.
Finally: Whether you’re creating a new website or revising an old one, the last step for any Java Developer is always test, test, test. After all, your job isn’t just making a website that “wows.” It’s making a website that works!
