IT Security Analyst

It’s not often that you’re asked to think like a criminal. If you work as an IT Security Analyst, though, that’s exactly what you do. It’s your job to prevent malicious attacks and hackers from stealing computer data or destroying valuable equipment. To be an IT Security Analyst, you have to get inside the mind of a hacker, figure out the weak points in your client’s computer system, and then find the best way to fix them.

As an IT Security Analyst, your extensive knowledge in designing and setting up information security systems lets you incorporate both planning and physical setup responsibilities into your daily work. You spend your days examining the client’s system for any flaws, such as weak passwords or out-of-date programs. Only when you know what the company needs and how to prepare it for the fight against ever-evolving cyber threats can you design a successful system.

When you’ve outlined an effective system, you find the easiest and cheapest way to implement it. Once it’s in place, you cover monthly maintenance. From making regular back-ups of data to upgrading virus protection, you keep systems current.

In many ways, you’re like a Bodyguard, only for data instead of people. It may seem odd to guard non-physical objects, but if a hacker steals credit card numbers or other sensitive information from your client, it could bury the company in a pile of lawsuits. With you on the job, the client knows their information is safely tucked out of sight, where it should be.
