Men are from Mars and women are from Venus—and not only in the way they think and act. The male and female bodies are built differently, too. That’s why there’s a type of Doctor that specializes in the study of the female body: the Gynecologist. More specifically, Gynecologists focus on the reproductive system rather than the general female anatomy.

Of all the systems of the body, the female reproductive system is perhaps the most amazing. As a Gynecologist, you’re fully aware of this because you spend your days working to improve and maintain reproductive health. You perfsorm annual exams to identify sexually transmitted infections and other diseases, such as cancer. You also diagnose cysts or growths, and organs that aren’t pulling their weight.

You are your patient’s Doctor, but you’re also a Fertility Specialist, a Counselor, and a Cheerleader. In addition to diagnosing and treating conditions (including pregnancy), you offer suggestions that might improve pregnancy odds, a shoulder to cry on when something goes wrong, and resources that can help your patient deal with illness.

If you’re a Gynecologists who is also trained in obstetrics, you’re known as an OB/GYN. In fact, almost all Gynecologists are OB-GYNs, which means you’re there from the first news of pregnancy to the birth of the baby. You also provide care after the baby is born. This is a wonderfully rewarding career that allows you to take part in one of the most amazing natural wonders on the planet—conception and childbirth!
