In school, the only way the Teacher knew you had a question or comment was if you raised your hand. In the world of business, marketing is the equivalent of raising your hand: It lets customers and prospects know you’re there, and tells them you have something to say. If what you have to say is “green” or “sustainable,” however, you’ll need more than marketing to make your message heard. You’ll also need a Green Marketing Analyst.

As a Green Marketing Analyst, you gather for your clients information about consumers so they can make strategic decisions about who to market to and how. Like a normal Marketing Analyst, you conduct market research via in-person, phone, and Internet surveys in order to find out what consumers want. Your work also involves researching your clients’ competition and examining buyer trends, then using the information you’ve gathered to develop reports and recommendations to inform decisions about what products to offer, as well as the design, distribution, and promotion of those products.

The big difference: The Green Marketing Analyst specializes in environmental sustainability. Your clients are therefore companies that want to appeal to eco-conscious consumers by promoting environmentally friendly products or services. You might work for a House Builder, for instance, who wants to advertise energy-efficient homes, or a Restaurateur who wants to promote farm-to-table food.

Whatever the case may be, you’re paid to find out if consumers want green products, if they’re willing to pay more for them, and how the company can help promote them with energy- and waste-efficient procurement, production, and packaging.

Personality Traits

Detail Oriented: You pay close attention to all the little details.
