Genitourinary Radiologist
Use high-tech imaging to evaluate reproductive and urinary problems.
All men are created equal. Because human anatomy is not a democracy, however, not all body parts are. In fact, some body parts are totally optional — the ear lobes, for instance, and the appendix — while others are essential: the heart, for starters, and the head. Of course, practically all the “essential” parts are located in your midsection, which is home to the digestive, endocrine, and reproductive systems — parts of which make up the genitourinary system.
When you’re a Genitourinary Radiologist, that’s your domain, as it’s the Genitourinary Radiologist’s job to capture, analyze, and interpret radiographic images of reproductive organs and urinary tracts.
Employed by hospitals and clinics, you do on a daily basis exactly what other Radiologists do: You advise Doctors on the best radiographic treatments for patients, including X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds; you supervise Radiology Technicians, who capture radiographic images of patients’ internal anatomy; and you study those images for the purpose of finding, diagnosing, and treating medical problems.
What’s unique about you isn’t your “duties,” therefore, but rather your knowledge: Given your specialization in the genitourinary system, you’re an expert who’s been trained in the visual diagnosis of diseases and conditions affecting the bladder, urinary tract, and reproductive system, such as kidney stones, ureteral obstruction, kidney cysts and tumors, ruptured bladders, and cancer of the cervix, uterus, ovaries, and prostate.
Although you can’t “put your kidneys in” when you do the hokey-pokey, you can still “shake them all about” when they’re healthy. Armed with an X-ray machine, a Genitourinary Radiologist makes sure that they are!
