Gas Compressor Operator

Gas Compressor Operators work with gas compression equipment in a variety of industries (think natural gas lines, construction sites, or manufacturing facilities). As a Gas Compressor Operator, you transfer, compress, and recover various types of gases, and are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, operating, and repairing compressors.

Following guidelines and schedules created by Petroleum Engineers or other Supervisors, Gas Compressor Operators monitor and regulate the flow of gas to engines, pumps, and other equipment. For example, when working on a construction site, you’re responsible for maintaining the flow of gas to all gas-powered equipment.

Utilizing your keen attention to detail, you monitor all gauges and meters to ensure that the gas compressor functions as it should. When trouble is detected, you step in and make the necessary repairs or adjustments, and give recommendations on what should be done next.

Keeping track of the operation of all equipment requires a working knowledge of computers. This lets you maintain the operation log. Information gathered on the temperature of the machine, flow of gas, and overall performance is used to determine best practices and ways to improve functionality.

Overall physical fitness makes your work easier, as you’ll be required to stand, walk, climb, twist, and lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout your workday. Rather than being stuck inside an office all day, you enjoy the fresh air and beauty of nature as you often work outdoors.
