Funeral Attendant
Take care of the little details that make funerals go smoothly. Also known as FSA, Funeral Greeter, Funeral Home Attendant See More
Unfortunately, funerals are an everyday occurrence. While most of us attend only a handful in our lifetimes, a Funeral Attendant spends every working day witnessing these events. As a Funeral Attendant, you directly help the Funeral Director, interact with the Embalmer, and frequently work with the other funeral home employees.
It’s your job as a Funeral Attendant to assist the Funeral Director in providing reliable service for the mourners of the deceased. That means you make every effort to consider the feelings of the client. For example rather than hauling the open casket in before them, you ensure that it’s already in place before the first mourner arrives.
If it’s an open casket, you arrange the lid and close it during the appropriate time in the service. You also place lighting and flowers to optimize viewing and add beauty to the occasion.
When mourners begin to arrive, you answer questions, direct them to the proper room, and offer aid to anyone who needs it. If the service continues at a gravesite, you help load the casket into the hearse, and you might even drive it to the location. Once there, you might act as a Pallbearer, or aid those who do. You also provide the supplies needed to prepare the site, and ensure that the casket is lowered and buried following the service.
With you taking care of the details, mourners can focus on the service without added concern for flower placement, music, or the transfer of the body.
