Front Desk Clerk

After six hours in the car with whining kids and a rambunctious dog, all a family wants to do is collapse in their hotel room. The job of the hotel’s Front Desk Clerk is to be the first smiling face they see when they walk in the door. As a Front Desk Clerk, you greet and help each guest register and find their room, all while taking phone calls and questions from other guests.

The job duties of a Front Desk Clerk run in a continuous cycle, yet every minute is slightly different as you constantly meet new people. First, you gather information from the guests and assign them a room. They’ll need room keys and a billing statement that shows their charges.

Once you’ve sent them on their way, you answer phone calls and assist other guests. One person needs a wake-up call the next morning while another is out of fresh towels. After meeting those needs, you help a guest who wants to check out. You print their receipt and successfully check them out in the hotel’s computer system.

It’s a fast-paced job with duties that vary depending on the shift you work. Morning shifters at small hotels may be responsible for preparing the free complimentary breakfast, while the night crew may be responsible for locking up the pool area.

Above all, your duty is to make guests comfortable. You imagine everyone at the hotel is a guest in your own home, and offer them the same service and amenities you would give your best friends.
