As a Fire Prevention Research Engineer, you dedicate your life to studying this foe by attending expos, seminars, and other meetings with fire prevention experts. Keeping abreast of cutting-edge developments in science and technology is essential to success in this job. While you focus mainly on creating new devices to prevent fires from happening, or stop them when they occur, you may also be called upon to consult with police, fire, and other authorities on fire-related issues.

Education can be one of the best ways to prevent fires. Your in-depth knowledge of how fires start and how to stop them is invaluable to Architects, Building Inspectors, and even private homeowners. Expect to communicate with any number of people who need your unique expertise to help save lives and preserve property. You may work a standard 40-hour workweek, but after-hours meetings and work-related travel will be the norm.
