Expediter

As an Expediter you make sure a project has everything that is needed to finish the job, precisely when it is needed, so that deadlines can be met. These needs might include information or physical material: whatever asset a company or project requires. Expediters will most often work with Contractors, construction crews, or the food preparation industry.

This is an extremely important job, and a time sensitive one. Maybe there isn’t room on a construction site to store all the materials that will be needed for a finished project, or storing the materials on site might put the materials at risk for damage or theft. Perhaps a restaurant chain needs someone to make sure they always have fresh veggies for their Cobb Salads. Either way, this is where you – the Expediter – come in.

You order the proper amount of materials or supplies, making sure there are no delays caused by waiting on them to arrive, or waste from improper storage. Either of which could be extremely costly. You also are responsible for returning any extra materials once the job is completed.

Your days consist of keeping track of delivery schedules, visiting construction sites, and talking with everyone to make sure there are enough supplies to keep everything running smoothly. You also keep in close contact with the suppliers. Basically, you are the social butterfly of the construction and food preparation world.

To be successful in this job you will be detail oriented and a great problem solver. You also need basic computer skills because your trusty laptop helps keep everything organized – especially during construction season when you will probably be working on more than one project at a time.
