Emergency Room Technician

The Emergency Room Technician is a key player in the life-saving teams of emergency rooms. You tackle the technical aspects of treating a hospital patient, which include running tests, taking blood samples, and keeping an eye on a patient’s vital signs. Emergency Room Technicians take care of the hands-on side of the job, and inform Doctors of test results. The Doctor can then form a treatment plan to help the patient.

Specific procedures are passed back and forth between Nurses and you. A Nurse may give the patient a shot or some medication, while you set up the patient’s IV and draw blood for testing. Aside from blood, you may also collect urine samples. All of these tests play a vital role in revealing what’s wrong with the patient. That’s why it’s essential that you enter every test result in their charts, in between testing patients.

As an Emergency Room Technician, you also work with the Doctor to review lab results, and to administer tests that take more than one person to accomplish. Together with the Doctors and Nurses, you serve as the lifeline that emergency room patients cling to for healing.

In this field, you must work quickly while still obtaining accurate test results and soothing the patient at the same time. The emergency room demands rapid results to heal the sick and injured. In this setting, quick action can spell the difference between life and death.
