Educational Consultant
Untangle the confusing web of college entrance requirements and procedures. Also known as See More
Today, the pressure to get into a good college has made it necessary for students to make the right school decisions beginning at a very young age. Kid doesn’t get into that highly-ranked preschool? Kiss that Harvard acceptance goodbye!
In order to handle the pressure and the often confusing situation, parents call you. As an Educational Consultant, you help families navigate the school selection process, and match up the right school with each student’s needs.
Your clients come in all forms. As an Educational Consultant you might have a bright child who’s not being challenged enough, one with learning disabilities that are not being addressed, or one who needs extra attention due to behavior problems.
You figure out where they’ll fit best out of a wide range of boarding schools, specialty programs, intervention organizations, and public or private schools. You interview both the parents and the student, and then create a list that takes into account the family’s wants and needs. Once the student makes their choice, Educational Consultants help them through the admission process, from scheduling testing to sending in applications.
Networking is a huge part of this job. Most Educational Consultants spend a fair amount of their time traveling to different schools in order to make and improve connections. You meet with administrative personnel and Teachers, not only to get a feel for the school’s environment, but also to get your name out there. This is necessary because you’re often dealing with very competitive schools, and you want to improve your client’s chance of acceptance any way you can.
