Dietetics Professors teach college students the art of planning out a healthy diet, and how food and nutrition affect the human body. Like a Mechanic for the body, you know how everything runs and what to fix when things don’t function properly. Most Dietetics Professors start by working in a medical or clinical setting and counseling clients on proper dieting choices before moving up to the Professor position.

For the job to run smoothly, you must create lesson plans, write out tests and exams, and research books and other educational materials available for your classes. The day is spent lecturing, grading student work, and planning for the next class session.

Often, you still work with clients on the side. You may counsel patients one day and teach at a university the next. Since good nutrition plays an important role in caring for a family, Dietetics Professors may also teach home management skills related to eating healthy, managing finances, building strong family relations, and caring for children.

Professors may also visit other schools as guest lecturers. Teaching fewer classes and opting instead to hold occasional campus lectures on the subject of nutrition allows you to make time for both students and clients, without giving preference to one or the other.
