Crow

The carefully planned details are what make up a work of art, and in your work as a Crown Ceramist, you skillfully craft dental crowns that give each patient a pearly white smile. Planning, shaping, and detailing each crown fills your work hours, and when you’re finished, you’ve sculpted a tooth so realistic it could fool the best of the best in the world of dentistry.

Just as a great painting starts with an examination of the subject, so does a great tooth crown. As a Crown Ceramist, you examine molds made from the patient’s teeth to understand the size and shape of the tooth you’re molding. Photographs or a direct examination of the patient’s teeth give you a final perspective of what the crown should look like, and which colors will look most natural.

With the planning out of the way, it’s time to create your one-of-a-kind work of art. You start sculpting and molding the crown out of porcelain, metal, ceramic, or resin, depending on the patient’s needs. When it’s molded to its full height, you slowly smooth away rough edges, and add in the details and intricate shaping that mimic a real tooth.

At first glance, the job of a Crown Ceramist may not seem like that of an Artist, but your creative skills and attention to detail are the keys to bringing back self-esteem to a patient with a chipped or missing tooth. People need to eat, talk, smile, and laugh. You make sure your patients can do all that—and more—with confidence.
