Crop Specialists grow the future. They use their detailed knowledge of different agricultural techniques, products, and technological advancements to help Farmers get the most out of the earth. A love of farming and all things green is a definite requirement for this job. If you grew up on a farm, or just love agriculture, then this career could give you a chance to live that love.

Every day, you meet with real-world Farmers. They look to you for new strains and varieties of crops, and you give them guidance and advice on picking the seeds that are most suitable for their conditions.

Knowing how to prevent the latest varieties of pests and crop diseases also help you help your customers — and the world! The U.S. is one of the world’s leading food producers. Crop Specialists keep our nation’s Farmers ahead of the curve and at the top of the food production game.

A 40-hour workweek is the starting point for Crop Specialists. Most of your time is spent out in the field, meeting with Farmers, so you may need to be flexible with your hours to meet with them when they’re available. Attending marketing presentations and expos where you learn about advancements in agricultural technology is also part of the job.

You represent a company or group of companies with specific products that they’re trying to sell, but learning as much as you can about all aspects of the industry will serve you well. Good communications and sales skills will also boost your effectiveness.
