Concierge
Cater to hotel guests' every whim. Also known as Activities Concierge, Club Concierge, Conference Concierge, Hotel Concierge See More
If you pride yourself on providing exceptional customer service, love to communicate with all types of people, and have connections at the local hot spots, you’ll be a natural for the job of Concierge. That’s because the goal of a Concierge is to make customers happy by giving them whatever they might request (within reason, of course).
If you’re a Concierge, you work at a resort, upscale hotel, or even a cruise ship. It’s a position that makes you available to those who are used to being taken care of. And that’s fine with you, because when they ask you to get tickets to the sold-out basketball game, or the Cirque du Soleil show in town, you’re one step ahead of them. You know who to call, or you already have a stockpile of tickets waiting for the request.
In addition to tickets, you arrange for transportation to and from the show. You might rent a limousine, or simply provide a cab upon request. Guests ask your advice on the best restaurants for dinner, and often request that you make reservations for them. Sometimes this requires an insider’s finesse. For example, if your guest wants to eat at a restaurant booked up months in advance, you’ll need to know someone who can squeeze them in.
To be successful in this position, you obviously need to do some networking. In addition, you need clear communication skills so you can take requests and respond to guests through email, phone conversations, and faxes. A warm, friendly personality is expected as well.
