Climatology Professor

A remark about the soggy conditions that cancelled the weekend’s football game is a remark about the weather. A report stating that San Francisco has five fewer foggy days per year compared to 20 years ago is a report about the climate. Climatology Professors teach students how to study the climate and write these sorts of riveting reports.

If you’re a Climatology Professor, at the start of the school year, you determine what books you’d like your students to read for the class, and what aspects of climatology you’ll cover in your courses. Since you hold the title of “Climatology Professor,” you’ve probably left beginning students behind, and you teach courses for small groups of advanced students instead. Your courses are difficult, but your advanced students appreciate the challenge.

Often, you lecture your students on the topic and allow them to ask questions as needed. They write papers and take tests so you can provide them with a grade at the end of the course. You help struggling students by opening your office door throughout the day and admitting visitors who have questions.

The school may ask you to help select new Instructors in your department, so you conduct interviews and review applications. You may also help set the department’s budget, and attend department-wide meetings to discuss how certain climate topics should be covered.

The climate consumes your thoughts, and you conduct your own research to help advance your theories. Often, you write papers about your research and send them to prestigious journals for publication. When the articles are selected for publication, you’re permitted to boast just a bit about your fame.
