Retail Salesperson
Sell your customer exactly what they need with charisma and knowledge.
If the rise of Ugg boots is any evidence, trends spread pretty fast across college campuses. College kids talk to lots of different people, are easily influenced by what their peers are doing, and are always looking for the new hip thing. Marketing Managers often wonder how to reach this elusive group of consumers, and the Campus Ambassador is the answer.
Campus Ambassadors are usually college students themselves, or recently graduated alumni. When you’re a Campus Ambassador, you work on a college campus to spread the word about a new product your company is selling. You can be employed by pretty much any company you can think of, but they tend to be companies that have a product that appeals to people from the ages of 18 to 24. Examples include cell phone companies, and Red Bull and other energy drink manufacturers.
In this job, your responsibility is to sell and do on-the-ground, guerilla-style marketing. You might walk around with the product or give presentations in a highly trafficked area, like the student lounge or a popular outdoor hangout spot. Just like any Salesperson, you should enjoy talking to people of all types, and be able to really listen to what they say. You need to understand all aspects of the product you’re selling, and should be able to think on your feet, giving intelligent reasons for why the product will help each individual you talk to.
