As the title suggests, Biology Professors teach college or university students all about biology. If you’re a Biology Professor, you may teach introductory courses, where you attempt to inspire students to love biology and major in the field. Or you may teach higher-level courses, where you help advanced students hone their existing passion for the subject.

You spend a portion of your day in the classroom, conducting lectures about the subject and administering tests to ensure that they’ve been paying attention. You also supervise laboratory sessions and help students conduct experiments. A good Biology Professor strives to be both entertaining and educational so his or her students will be encouraged to listen and give high marks when they’re asked to fill out performance evaluations.

When you’re not in the classroom, you spend time in your office. You may talk to struggling students, providing added instruction to help them keep up. You also put together your lesson plans and laboratory experiments, as well as grading tests and assignments, perhaps with the help of an assistant.

Your true passion may lie in research though. You conduct your own experiments in biology, and write reports about what you found. Then you send those reports to magazines and journals, hoping to get published and bring your school added fame. In fact, you may be required to publish something periodically.

On top of all this, you attend conferences on biology to keep your knowledge sharp, and the information you pass to your students current.
