Collecting tickets, seating participants, and watching the excitement unfold are all part of your daily routine. No, you’re not an Amusement Park Ride Attendant; you’re an Audience Coordinator! And that means you’re in charge of all things audience-related during a live TV show. Whether corralling ticket holders or cuing the audience when it’s time to laugh, an Audience Coordinator’s got crowd control down to a science.

Some TV Hosts, like Oprah Winfrey, have audiences fighting over tickets years in advance. The more common scenario, however, is a sparse audience where many people are no-shows. It’s your job to track down other people at the last minute to fill in for those who never made it.

When it’s time for the show, you survey the audience size and remove any empty chairs. When the camera pans over the audience, the TV Host doesn’t want it to look sparse. You may play a behind-the-scenes role, but you still have a big impact on casting the show in a positive light.

In your role as an Audience Coordinator, you may also advertise upcoming events through social media networks. If you work for a large company, you may have an Assistant Audience Coordinator to help out. In a smaller company, you handle the details yourself. You never know what to expect until the cameras start rolling, but as they say, the show must go on!
