The job of an Analyst is to analyze something. That something is so widely varied, the options are nearly endless. One thing is certain though. If you know that you have an analytical mind, enjoy problem solving, and look forward to scouring through loads of paperwork and data to reach a conclusion, then this is the job for you.
You could work with businesses, either as a one-time Consultant or as a permanent staff member. In this position, you collect and analyze data on things like current market conditions, competition, sales, the production line, supply deliveries, gas/utility/parts usage, human resource policies, or profits.
If you want to work in the intelligence industry, you could collate and analyze data for the federal government. In this position, you have first-hand access to the activities of Agents in the field. You use their reports, pictures, and other information gathered in the field to identify terrorist camps, the location of the enemy, or bomb-making facilities.
Another common Analyst position is in the computer industry. You examine a wide range of computer-related things. For example, you might analyze the speed of the machine. Or you might study aspects of the most popular software that make the systems run faster, more efficiently, and more reliably.
The financial industry also employs a lot of Analysts. In this position, you analyze the markets to identify trends. You might work for an investment bank or directly on Wall Street.
