Agronomy Professor

Professors are Teachers who educate students at the university level. Agronomy Professors teach students about plant genetics. Though not all students are majoring in agronomy, the Agronomy Professor exposes them to the potential to feed the hungry, create new plant strains, and improve soil conditions. That kind of science can produce new fuels and end world hunger.

In the classroom, you spend your time presenting lectures, assigning homework, answering questions, and challenging students to think and inquire. After all, a world of knowledge begins with one phrase: “What if…?” Back in your office, you schedule office hours for your students to pop in and ask questions. In addition, you formulate future lesson plans, mark papers, and assign grades.

The Professor level of teaching comes with additional responsibilities. You’re expected to perform research in the field of agronomy and publish results so that other Scientists can benefit from your findings. Research is another opportunity for your students to learn, grow, think, and develop a passion for plant genetics, so you include them in the lab and supervise their work.

When you’re not teaching or mentoring students, you take part in making decisions that affect the science department and campus as a whole.
