At the end of every advertisement or marketing push is an Advertising Account Manager. This person forms a critical link in the chain of creative processes that make up an advertising campaign. Working within marketing agencies or advertising firms, the Advertising Account Manager manages a docket of client accounts.

As an Advertising Account Manager, you are responsible for client budgets and timelines for each account under your control. In larger organizations you oversee Advertising Account Executives, a lower level position which serves as the primary client contact for a few designated accounts. In smaller companies this job might not exist, however, in which case you will be in charge of reporting to clients on the status of their accounts.

Achieving sales targets and researching new business leads is another big part of your job (i.e. bringing in new customers). The first step in this process is meeting with prospective clients to figure out their vision and their goals. As the representative of the agency, you must come into these meetings with a thorough understanding of exactly how your firm can meet the potential client’s goals.

To be successful, it’s important for you to be savvy as the agency’s advantages are communicated. After all, you are the touchstone for your client for everything regarding their advertising efforts (and money). And given how important advertising is to a business, they’ll need to be reassured that their money is in good hands, and that you are on top of their campaign.
