From blockbuster movies to local news shows, skilled technicians are needed to meet the growing demand for content in the film and television industries. If you’re into popular media but not quite sure how you would fit in, this degree introduces you to the wide range of creative and technical skills needed in cinema and broadcasting. Through the program you explore a variety of entry-level career paths available with film or television studios, product and service companies and corporate organizations. You can also use this degree as a steppingstone to an advanced degree in a specific production discipline.
In this program you learn about the business aspects of the industry and will be introduced to a variety of skills used behind the camera. Depending on the program, you may also study performance techniques. Courses may include proposals, budgeting and ratings, history of cinema and television, production crews and equipment, directing, cinematography, scriptwriting, film, and digital and video editing. You acquire a basic foundation in cinema and broadcasting production theory, techniques and hands-on skills, and you have the training to participate in areas including storyboarding and scripting, camera, lighting, sound operations, staging and sets, editing, project management and oversight.
